Artists Kuan-yun Huang and Chen Lin Ma will perform a concert entitled “Melodies of Taiwan at Mid-Autumn.” In this concert, they present iconic Taiwanese songs from the 1930s such as “Moon Night Sorrow,” with guided listening, interactive activities, and sing-alongs to show how the lyrics and meaning of the song changed from the period of Japanese colonial rule to martial law under the Guomindang in the postwar era and then finally its latest iteration in the era of democracy in the twenty-first century.
The concert and accompanying night market is sponsored by Hanover College, the Madison Performing Arts Foundation, and the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office of Chicago.
